[APA-International] International Division - member listserv

Mike -
1. So far, only you, Beth, and I have subscribed, so only the three of
us will receive this message. When you get it, you'll know the listserv
is working.
2. I didn't hear from anyone on the "approval" setting (message below).
Do you want me to leave the setting where it is - all subscription
requests will have to be manually checked and approved (by me)? Or, do
you want to try removing the approval process, and having folks join
through the division website which should limit it to members-only?
3. You might want to wait until Monday am to send out the message. That
way, if I do need to approve subscriptions, I'll be available to check
the requests at least once a day during the initial surge of activity.
Thanks.
Susan

Susan, is it ready to be used?
Susan Turner <STurner at planning.org> wrote:
Beth - I handled it manually and will continue to do so until we figure
out what the problem is. I'll check the subscription log each day at the
beginning, so let me know when you send the message. The subscription
requests are checked against the current membership log then approved.
So there may be a day or two delay (with weekends, holidays, etc.).
There's one other option we might want to try at least in the couple
weeks right after you announce the listserv - that's when the majority
of those wishing to subscribe will do so.
If you all consistently instruct members to join through the listserv
link on the division website, only members will have ready access to it.
We could see how it works without having to cross-check the name/e-mail
address manually against the membership roster. I could review it after
about a week to see if there are non-members signing up.

Thanks -- I did get an email confirmation today (attached) so maybe it's

Beth, et al -
Hmmm... I need to check out how the system is notifying me - it's not
working the way it should.
The latest update provides the option for subscribers to add their names
- I've added the request for their name to the instructions below.
Go to the division website http://www.planning.org/international/ and
click on Listserv
[Note: You will be asked to login with your APA ID (on your Planning
magazine mailing label or invoice).]
Scroll to the subscription "form" near the bottom of the general
information page.
Enter the e-mail address to which you want listserv messages to be sent
AND your name.
Your reply to any message will be distributed to all subscribers; to
reply privately to a posting enter the poster's e-mail address in the TO
field.

I just subscribed. Once it's up and Susan gives the ok, I'll send out a
notification to the membership. Thanks to Ryan and Susan for working on
this. Mike

I've reconfigured the listserv and it should be ready to launch.
However, I'd like to test it with the you and the other division leaders
between now and Monday.
Division Leaders - Please visit the listserv's general information page,
subscribe to it, and review the confirmations you receive. Please let me
know if you run into any problems or see any errors. Please confirm to
me that you've subscribed. This will test the notifications that I get
on this end. Thanks.
The disclaimer on the General Information page and the Welcome message
are standard for all APA leadership listservs.
Once a few of you have subscribed without a hitch, I'll give you the
go-ahead to send the instructions out to your members. You might want to
give them some suggestions about how they can use the listserv - share
job opportunities, links to conferences and other sites of interest (you
might want to add these to your website resources), etc.
Keep in mind that this is a voluntary subscription and only a small, but
very interested, percentage of the membership will sign up. The listserv
will be for those who want a means to communicate on international
planning issues with other interested members. All regular member
communications should continue to go to all members using the
information on the most current roster report. All membership reports
are distributed to Beth and others, as requested.
Go to the division website http://www.planning.org/international/ and
click on Listserv
[Note to leaders: Members will be asked to login with their APA ID (on
their Planning magazine mailing label or invoice). There are other
member-only sections of the APA website, so using their ID and password
for this process will help them get into the habit.]
The subscription "form" is near the bottom of this general information
page.
Let me know how it goes.

If you send me the directions for subscription, I can send out an
e-mail for everyone telling them how to subscribe.
