Attention Illinois Planners!

There is only two more weeks for early registration rates for the Upper-Midwest Four State Conference! The Conference is taking place in St. Charles, at the Pheasant Run Resort from October 4 – 6, 2006.

This year’s conference is entitled “Great planning begins at home” and features over 30 different conference sessions and 3 mobile workshops all designed to illustrate the great local planning efforts happening in all four states. The 3 mobile workshops include:

Mobile Workshop 1
Downtown Revitalization
Downtowns play a critical part in telling the story of a community, whether it’s highlighting the town’s history or recent progress. This tour will provide an upfront look at two riverfront towns, St. Charles and Naperville, and highlight the projects that have led to their success, sustainability, and recent growth.

Mobile Workshop 2
Bike Trails
Bike down the Fox River Trail and see not only what nature has to offer, but also local planning success stories along the way! This casual bike ride will be led by local experts and will highlight this impressive and extensive trail system. Bring your bike or indicate that a rental is needed.

Mobile Workshop 3
Smart Growth on the Edges
As suburbs continue to grow at a rapid pace, many communities have begun to move away from the acceptance of residential sprawl and instead refocus their attention on defining the suburban edge, creating open space, and preserving existing natural features. Tour some local examples of this work and see firsthand the impact of open space planning, prairie restoration, and other “smart” projects.

An updated Conference Program and Registration Form are attached for your convenience. Feel free to spread the word in your office with the attached office flyer. Information about Sponsorship, Resort and Accommodations, and St. Charles can also be found at http://www.ilapa.org/2006conf.html. The original early registration deadline has been pushed back to September 11th 2006!!!!! Do not miss this excellent opportunity to meet with your peers and learn about the various planning trends that are occurring in the Midwest!
