Dear Chapter Member,
In addition to the very important presidential elections in November, it is also time for the bi-annual election process for the Illinois Chapter of APA to begin. As Past President, I am in charge of putting together a slate of candidates for the Chapter Board. These positions include President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. By tradition, past practice and the realities of a volunteer organization, the Past President has nominated a slate of candidates, one for each position. I am in the process of assembling the slate.

Per the Chapter By-Laws, I am required to announce the commencement of the election process. I also am required to notify membership that any member may ensure that his or her name is on the election ballot so long as a Nominating Petition is submitted to the Nominating Committee (i.e. me). The Petition must include at least 100 signatures of Chapter members. The deadline for such submission is September 15, 2008. Please send me an email if you are interested.

During this process, we will also be updating the Chapter By-Laws and asking for your vote of approval for these.

Ballots, along with bios and position statements, will be mailed in late September or early October, with a month to vote and mail ballots to the Committee. The results will be announced by mid-December and the new Board will take office on January 1st.

Mark Koplin, AICP
Past President, American Planning Association – Illinois Chapter
