Please get
in touch with your
members of Congress. The amendment vote will
likely be
between 4:30pm and 5pm today.

-----------------------------------

The House of Representatives is scheduled to
vote later today, so
please hurry and show your support for both the Nadler Amendment and
the
American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 http://www.rules.house.gov/SpecialRules_details.aspx?NewsID=4134

Please encourage Congress to add the
amendment offered by Reps. Nadler,
DeFazio, Lipinski and McMahon to the American Recovery and Reinvestment
Act of
2009.  The amendment adds crucially important funding to the nation's
transit systems by adding $1.5 billion for the Transit Capital
Improvement
Program and $1.5 billion for the New Starts Program, restoring the
funding
levels to those proposed by House Transportation and Infrastructure
Committee
Chairman Oberstar.  With this amendment, total funding for transit in
the
recovery bill would reach $12 billion.

Our nation's transit and intercity rail
systems are struggling to meet
their maintenance, repair and capital needs.  While Congress considers
a
massive investment in the country's economic recovery, make sure your
Representative knows the importance of increased transit funding for a
cleaner,
greener future.

The infrastructure portion of the American
Recovery and Reinvestment
Act of 2009 will stimulate the economy by providing funds for critical
improvements that will get Americans working while reducing our
dependence on
oil, increasing transportation options and improving the environment.
This investment is combined with other portions of the bill that
provide funds
for energy efficiency and scientific research, assistance to the
unemployed,
along with State and local assistance for healthcare and other
programs.   The wide-ranging bill has been designed to address the
full scope of the economic crisis of this country, with accountability
and
transparency measures built-in to help ensure tax dollars are spent
wisely.

As Congress debates this important
legislation, make sure that your
member of Congress knows that you support their efforts to promote
infrastructure investment and improve transit by contacting them via
email,
telephone or fax.
