Tour the 23 acre Illinois Science + Technology Park and hear about zoning modifications & Village incentives while highlighting the links between where people work where they spend their money.

Maintaining Downtown Vibrancy on the Rails – The downtowns of the north shore represented transit oriented development long before the term “TOD” was coined. Understand the successes and challenges of three municipalities along Metra's Union Pacific (UP) North Line: Evanston, Wilmette and Highland Park. This mobile workshop will examine the historical development of each community, the current issues, and their unique efforts to preserve and enhance these TOD districts.

Redevelopment on the Municipal Frontier – Get a better understanding of life "on the border". Howard Street, the municipal boundary between Evanston and Chicago and a transit hub for trains and buses, has experienced redevelopment in fits and starts. Explore this often overlooked area and learn about the challenges to redevelopment that result from differing municipal approaches and mismatched planning priorities. Learn more about public/private partnerships and local efforts to engage neighborhood residents and business owners on both sides of Howard St.

Join us for some social events!
5K Fun Run/Walk Along Lake Michigan’s Shoreline - Begin Thursday morning with 3 miles of fun on Lake Michigan. From the Hilton Orrington/Evanston Hotel, we’ll walk or jog by historic homes to a paved recreational path that winds through Evanston’s picturesque lakeside parks. The route is out-and-back, so participants can easily tailor the route length based on pace and desired return time.

A Two-Wheeled Perspective of Evanston - Get a two-wheeled perspective of the conference’s host community on this 10-mile guided bike tour. This excursion will explore the scenic lakefront, recent bike and pedestrian path improvements, Evanston ’s residential neighborhoods and the Skokie sculpture park. So, strap on your helmet and get ready for a leisurely early morning ride. Participants are encouraged to bring their own bikes and helmets; however, the first 25 participants to register for the event will receive free use of a bike, courtesy of Bike and Roll Chicago.
