The AICP and APA have requested a change to the composition of the PAB Board. The requested change could have a significant impact on the work of the PAB. Therefore, the PAB is soliciting feedback from its constituents on this proposed change by July 19. View additional detail and comments here or read the notice below.


The Planning Accreditation Board (PAB) is the decision making body for the accreditation of bachelor’s and master’s degrees in planning in North America. The eight-member board is jointly appointed by the profession, through the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) and the American Planning Association (APA), and the academy, through the Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning (ACSP). 

AICP and APA have requested a change in the composition of the PAB Board, currently filled by the sponsoring organizations as follows:• ACSP – 4 appointees: 3 professors of planning and 1 higher education administrator (an accreditation expert with non-planning credentials)
• AICP – 3 appointees: 2 planning practitioners and 1 young planner (defined as “… a graduate of a PAB-accredited program and less than 35 years of age at the beginning of his/her term.”)
• APA – 1 appointee: 1 public member (an engaged citizen with non-planning credentials)
A PAB term is 3 years; members may be reappointed once.The requested change is to remove the requirement for one of the AICP appointees to be less than 35 years of age at the beginning of his/her term. 

PAB views the young planner appointee, as currently defined, to be both a planning practitioner as well as a recent consumer of PAB-accredited education. 

The requested change could have significant impact on the work of the PAB. Accordingly, PAB would welcome public feedback as part of its consideration of the requested change. Please share your comments prior to July 19 via email to admin at planningaccreditationboard.org. Comments received will be posted on the PAB website, www.planningaccreditationboard.org, and considered by the PAB in its deliberations.
Any change supported by PAB will then need approval of all sponsoring organizations before such change can be rendered effective.
