Conference Sessions in and around Chicago
Eight sessions highlighting activities in and around Chicago will be a featured. Planners throughout the region proposed these sessions last
year. Each session will be presented by knowledgeable speakers representing
municipalities (including the City of Chicago) and a wide variety of
local and national organizations, including experts from regional
planning bodies and community-focused nonprofit groups. Here's just

AICP Exam Prep Workshop - April 17th
Prepare for the AICP exam with the help of chapter professional
development officers who offer tips and focused training in the exam
format, content, and topic areas. Learn about the application
process and gain insights for success.
The workshop will be held April 17th, 7:45am-11:45am and it's only

Section Event: Working with Diverse Communities: Recognizing
Community Diversity and Effectively Engaging Residents
Join the CMS and the APA-IL
Diversity Committee
on March 13th for a panel
discussion to explore ways to lead community building efforts when
designing and developing unified, integrated communities. This
workshop will provide three different perspectives on promising
strategies that are responsive to the complexity of creating
diverse, integrated communities from various perspectives (e.g.,
community economic development, safety, affordable housing, social
equity, etc.) and will provide real examples of successful
approaches that can be applied to any type of community.

site. All presentations are available for viewing,
however only those webcasts that specifically state "Available for
CM Distance" will qualify for credits. Please
note that a several webcasts are TBD with descriptions. As

Municipal Development Award. Applications are due March 18. To

Illinois Statewide Preservation Conference
The Illinois Association of Historic
Preservation Commissions and Landmarks Illinois are pleased to
announce that
Illinois’ Statewide Preservation Conference
will be held June 27-29, 2013 in Evanston, Illinois. Save
the date!
This year’s conference will coordinate with Landmarks Illinois’
annual membership meeting in Evanston on June 27, and held
concurrently with the Illinois Historic Sites Advisory Council
meeting in Evanston on June 28. Additionally, Illinois preservation
commissioners can take advantage of an all-day preservation
commissioner mentoring program conducted by our colleagues at the
National Alliance of Preservation Commissions (NAPC).

Event:
Development Done Better
The
Congress for
New Urbanism - Illinois Chapter is embarking on a
two-year program that investigates approaching the design process
using non-traditional tools and processes to create responsive
places. The March 21st event will feature Naomi Davis, Blacks In
Green - Green Urban Villages; Christopher Dillion, Vermillion
Development - CNU-IL Charter Award Winning Project, Harper Court;
Kendra Smith, Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning, Public
Engagement Specialist - Chicago Green and Healthy Communities
Initiative. Complimentary tours of the Glessner House will begin at
5.00pm. Program starts at 6.00pm. Self-guided walking tours of
Historic Prairie Avenue are encouraged.
