APA-IL's 2014 FAICP Inductees. Congratulations to Steve  Friedman, AICP, Laurie Marston, AICP, Jim Peters, AICP, and Pattsi  Petrie, AICP, APA-IL's 2014 FAICP inductees to the AICP College of Fellows. Fellowship is granted to planners who  have been members of AICP and have achieved excellence in  professional practice, teaching and mentoring, research, public and  community service, and leadership. This year's 2014 Induction  Ceremony will be April 27th, at the 2014 National Planning  Conference in Atlanta. View the press release > >

The  2013 Annual Report is now available. The report provides a  summary of finances and activities for the past year. It also  includes committee initiatives, events, and accomplishments such as  hosting the 2013 National Conference, CMS & ISS Fall Conferences,  and Plan Commissioner Training.

Call for Legislative Committee members. The APA-IL  Legislative Committee is in need of volunteers to assist with  research and communications. If you are interested in the legal and  legislative process and would like to volunteer, please contact the  Legislative Committee Chair, David Silverman, AICP at dsilverman at ancelglink.com.

Christopher  R. Limas, 50, of Washington, IL, died on Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2014,  in Peoria, IL. Born on May 4, 1963, in Toledo, Ohio, Chris grew  up in Chicago Heights and graduated from Bloom High School. Chris  then graduated from Iowa State University in 1989 with a degree in  Urban Development and Planning and was a current member of the  American Planning Association - Illinois Chapter and past ISS  Secretary & Region 1 Coordinator. He worked for the City of  Bolingbrook, City of Peoria, Village of Richton Park, Village of  Willow Springs and City of Rochelle. Chris's memorial website is  available at deitersfuneralhome.com, where condolences may also be sent to  the family. Memorials may be made to an education fund for his four  children c/o Heartland Bank. His obituary was published in the Peoria Journal Star.

New ISS Region 4 Coordinator. Welcome Chuck Bevelheimer, AICP  from the City of Quincy as the new Region 4 Coordinator for the  Illinois State Section.

 Tour  the Coronado Theatre at the ISS Spring Conference. | April 10,  2014 | Join the APA-IL ISS for their Spring Conference and  experience Rockford’s amazing Coronado Theatre. The Coronado opened in 1927 as an Atmospheric  Theatre/ Movie Palace and is one of less than 10 theatres of this  type remaining in the US. An extensive restoration project was  undertaken during 1999-2001 and the Coronado still sparkles like  new. This pre-conference tour starts Apr. 10th at 9:30am.

NCI Traning a Success! In February, APA-IL invited the  National Charrette Institute to Chicago for a 3-day training on  the NCI Charrette System. 30 planning professionals received  hands-on training and became Certified Charrette Facilitators. Thank  you Chaddick Institute for Metropolitan Development, for hosting  this training.

APA-IL Pro Bono Committee January 2014 Service Projects. The  Pro Bono Committee encouraged members to participate in service  projects during the 2014 Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday. A range of  service projects touch a variety of causes in Urbana, IL. Read more > >

UIC UPP 40th Anniversary Event. UIC's College of Urban  Planning and Public Affairs (CUPPA) celebrated its 40th anniversary  with a gala event at the Harold Washington Library's Wintergarden on  February 22nd. There were a number of notable speakers and the night  ended with a few sets by a local blues band! The students of CUPPA  wish to thank the APA-IL chapter for their generous donation.
