Follow-up on Past Events
The McLean County Regional Planning Commission's 9th Regional Information Forum with Charles Marohn Jr., PE, AICP, took place in Normal on April 9th and was attended by 130 people. It was especially well attended by local officials. Mr. Marohn gave good examples and told stories with photo illustrations of how cities and towns can provide incentives and grants that result in very good outcomes, and good examples of other very costly incentives and grants that do not. The ISS sponsored this event.
The 2014 APA-IL ISS Spring Conference: Why Adaptive Reuse and How to “Make it Happen” on April 10th-11th, coordinated by Nathan Bruck, AICP, was attended by 76 people. The conference theme of Adaptive Reuse illustrated cutting edge sessions and workshops on how the Rockford region is pulling itself together with good planning and plan implementation. Thank you to all that help organize the event & to those that attended! View press release > >
The APA-IL Pro Bono Committee April Event was a community workshop for Chicago Heights' 3rd Ward on April 16th. 25 APA-IL planners and over 70 community members joined together to provide direction for future development in the 3rd Ward. Thank you to those APA-IL planners that joined us! View press release > >
The Third Annual Illinois Bike Summit at the I-Hotel in Champaign on April 15th was attended by nearly 300 people; that’s up from 180 last year. Mercy Davison, AICP, reported that “An attorney did a great session on bike/car law and what to do if in an accident. It was very interesting.” Cynthia Hoyle, FAICP, stated “I think this shows that we have achieved critical mass and the value of the summit is clear. People are lobbying to have it in their community now.” The ISS sponsored this event.
