Request for Proposals - Consultant Services
Bicycle Facility Feasibility and Design Project
The Tahoe Transportation District (TTD), Stateline, Nevada
Submittal Deadline: September 7, 2006
The Tahoe Transportation District (TTD) is seeking proposals from
qualified consultants to assist in developing a Nevada Lake Tahoe
Stateline to Stateline Bicycle Facility Feasibility and Design Project.
The East Shore of Lake Tahoe is an important missing link in the bicycle
network around the Lake. Many of the Lake's most picturesque beaches
and coves are located on the East Shore. These popular recreation areas
are difficult to access by means other than the private automobile due
to the lack of bicycle facilities or transit services. Paved parking,
however, is limited and the high demand for these areas leads to
shoulder parking and erosion problems. Providing a bicycle link to East
Shore beaches and recreation areas is an important step to reducing
vehicle and parking impacts, improving the multi-modal options available
to residents and visitors, and providing an unparalleled recreation
experience in the bike path itself.
The Nevada Lake Tahoe Stateline to Stateline Bicycle Facility
Feasibility Study will identify and analyze alternative alignments and
constraints, and where possible select a preferred alternative for a
separated, shared use path along the East Shore of Lake Tahoe. The study
is to provide the foundation (Scoping) for final NEPA analysis along the
entire length of the study area. It will also provide full NEPA
analysis, design and engineering for two short segments, Phase I of the
path. The Study will require creative engineering applications for
constrained geography and environmentally sensitive areas, and must be
consistent with design elements of the Nevada Bicycle Transportation
Plan and the Tahoe Plan Area Statements, and the Tahoe Regional Planning
Agency's "Lake Tahoe Regional Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan". The
Study will incorporate significant input from a variety of public
interest groups, individuals, and agencies within the Lake Tahoe Basin.

expected that the contract will be awarded on October 16, 2006. The
project timeline is expected to last approximately one year.
