Request for Proposals - Consultant Services
South Hills Transit Revitalization Investment District (TRID) Planning
Study
Allegheny County, Pennsylvania
Submittal Deadline: October 27, 2006
Project Information
The South Hills TRID Planning Study will be comprised of three studies;
one for each community. It will use the same consultants to capitalize
on economies of scale, create a uniform study, and look at development
using a multi-municipal approach to build a stronger community that
takes full advantage of what is possibly their greatest asset, the South
Hills LRT line. The TRID planning study will help each community in
different ways, because they are each in different stages of
understanding how Transit Oriented Development (TOD) will benefit their
communities. The specific T Station sites that this planning study will
consider are: Castle Shannon Station (Castle Shannon), Memorial Hall
Station (Castle Shannon), Dormont Junction (Dormont), Potomac Station
(Dormont), and Mount Lebanon Station (Mt. Lebanon).
Many of Allegheny County's older communities find themselves unable to
generate new tax revenue through new development. As "first-ring"
suburbs, smart redevelopment is necessary to remain viable. Development
around Port Authority Park and Ride and T Station sites is one of the
key strategies mentioned in Allegheny County Chief Executive Dan
Onorato's Six-Point Transportation Plan. TRIDs are congruent with the
strategy and a TRID study would assist the local government, the PAAC,
and ACED find alternative sources of funding in the future, jump start
current development initiatives, and generate new ideas to help our
communities grow more efficiently.
