Housing Land-use Study
The Town of Barrington, Rhode Island
Submittal Deadline: September 28, 2007

The Town of Barrington is soliciting Proposals from qualified planning
consultants interested in providing Consultant Services to develop a
housing-land use planning study focusing on Barrington's few significant
undeveloped tracts that could support different housing types and
densities. The Consultant will work with the Town to incorporate the
study's recommendations in the 5-Year Update of Barrington's
Comprehensive Community Plan and in amendments to the Zoning Ordinance
and Subdivision Regulations.

The highest priority will be to determine the Town's housing goals for
two specific sites: a 40-acre college campus that a developer proposes
to redevelop as a mixed-use village, and a vacant 20-acre site within a
developed residential area. The study will evaluate future development
scenarios for these two sites and other parcels across Barrington
(population 16,800) in terms of achieving Affordable Housing Plan
strategies, including the establishment of senior residential
communities, and development of a mix of housing types. The project will
explore the degree to which potential scenarios achieve
sustainability/Smart Growth principles.

Proposals must be submitted to the Town no later than 2 p.m. Friday,
September 28, 2007. The budget for this project is $20,000. It is
anticipated that the project will be completed within six (6) months
following approval of the consultant contract.
