Special Service Area Master Plan
Wicker Park Bucktown SSA #33, Chicago, Illinois
Submittal Deadline: June 29, 2007
SSA #33 is the Special Service Area for the Wicker Park and Bucktown
neighborhoods of Chicago. The SSA receives property tax income from
commercial streets in Wicker Park and Bucktown. This SSA is somewhat
unique in including a high number of residential taxpayers as well as
commercial ones.
The mission of SSA #33 is to sustain and promote the prosperity and
unique qualities of life of the Wicker Park/Bucktown neighborhood and
commercial district, whilst preserving its diverse character for the
benefit of its residents, visitors, and businesses through the wise and
discerning investment of resources to enhance our public ways.
The Wicker Park and Bucktown neighborhoods are vibrant, urban areas of
the City of Chicago that exhibit a rare combination of nightlife,
culture, family, and art that define the neighborhoods as unique in the
City. These are qualities that the SSA is working to preserve and
encourage, as indicated in the mission statement above.
SSA #33 intends to hire a consultant team to create a master plan for
the SSA. The master plan will serve as a guiding document, with
specific and meaningful findings and implementation strategies to be
used for the next 3-5 years.
* SSA #33 seeks an interdisciplinary team that will pursue
solutions and recommend programs and policies that are as unique and
diverse as the constituency it serves. All activities and the final
report should be conducted with an eye toward outcomes: we intend to use
this document as a road map for the future of the SSA, therefore, all
recommendations for phasing and execution must be thorough, thoughtful,
and detailed.
An interdisciplinary team with a broad base of knowledge, expertise, and
experience is desired. We value your ability to build upon tried and
true methods to create novel, inventive ones. This is not to say we
seek outlandish or outrageous ideas, but rather we prize fresh ideas
that are at once reasonable and inspiring.
