Request for Proposals - Consultant Services
Comprehensive Growth Management Study
The Town of Mount Desert, Maine
Submittal Deadline: November 1, 2007
The Planning Board of The Town of Mount Desert is seeking proposals from
qualified consultants or firms interested in preparing a comprehensive
growth management study to assist in updating the Land Use Zoning and
Subdivision ordinances such that they reflect the ideals and concepts
contained within the Town's Comprehensive Plan.
A recent application for development of a 19-acre parcel on Acadia
Mountain adjacent to Somes Sound, the only fjord on the east coast of
the United States, has focused attention on the need for professional
planning support, in the form of a study, to assist the Town in managing
its future growth. The land use and topographic issues of the Somes
Sound area illustrate the problems and opportunities that require
attention throughout the Town. A goal of such a study will be to
demonstrate an approach to meeting these challenges, which can be
applied to every part of the Town.
We plan to select our consultant on November 12. In order for the
Planning Board to make recommendations for inclusion in the Annual Town
Meeting Warrant for May 5-6, the study will need to be completed by
February 25.
Details about this opportunity are described in a "Request for
Proposals" document on the Town's website at www.mtdesert.org
