Travel Mode Share Survey
The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA)
Submittal Deadline: November 16, 2007
The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) is beginning a long-range
transportation monitoring program on travel patterns within the Lake
Tahoe Basin. TRPA seeks a consultant to carry out travel mode share
surveys of users of commercial and winter recreation areas in February
2008.
The main objectives of the project are to:
* Develop a methodology of surveying users of commercial and
recreation areas that is repeatable and minimizes bias.
* Gain an understanding of the travel mode split to commercial
core areas within the Tahoe Basin in the wintertime.
* Gain an understanding of the travel mode split to recreation
areas in the Tahoe Basin in the wintertime.
* Begin a data collection effort that can be repeated bi-annually,
producing a trend line that will show whether transportation strategies
are working to increase non-auto mode share.
* Provide data that can be used in future planning efforts to
increase non-auto mode share in the Tahoe Basin.
The data will be used as part of a tracking system that will show
changes in mode split over time, as well as to help establish a baseline
condition which can be used to develop transportation strategies and
benchmark conditions to strive for. Some mode split data already
exists, in the form of Census Journey to Work data, a household travel
survey, visitor surveys, and summer recreation and commercial area
surveys. The new data collection effort will build on this existing
data set and establish a repeatable, bi-annual or tri-annual survey
collection methodology.
