Zoning Ordinance Update
The Village of Wilmette, Illinois 
Submittal Deadline: August 18, 2008
The Village of Wilmette, Illinois, population 27,651, is currently
accepting proposals from qualified land use planning professionals
interested in assisting in an update of the current Zoning Ordinance and
Zoning Map. The selected firm will be asked to prepare amendments to the
Zoning Ordinance and Map that are consistent with the Village's
Comprehensive Plan, and planning goals recently identified by the Land
Use Committee of the Village Board. In addition, the selected firm will
be responsible for working with the Village Board of Trustees, Village
staff, the Plan Commission, other Boards and Commissions, as well as
residents and business owners. This assignment will involve attendance
at public hearings and meetings.
The last major rewrite of the Zoning Ordinance was in 1990; before that,
it was rewritten in 1975. Since 1990, approximately 120 text amendments
have been made to the Zoning Ordinance. A number of priorities have been
identified by the Village Board that require a more comprehensive look
at the Zoning Ordinance, including consideration of creating additional
residential and commercial zoning districts, review of the existing
parking requirements, examination of the variation procedures to
possibly establish a staff administered process to reduce then number of
routine variations, and review of the existing planned unit development
provisions. Education of Village staff, elected and appointed officials
will also be part of the scope of this project. Further, the consultant
will be responsible for recommending the organization and style of the
ordinance, it is the desire of the Village to cohesively incorporate
these items into the Zoning Ordinance in a logical and user friendly
manner.
Proposals will be due to the Village by August 18, 2008. After this
date, the Village will review submitted proposals within 20-30 business
days.
