South Park Avenue Revitalization Initiative
Neighborhood Housing Services of South Buffalo, New York
Submittal Deadline: June 30, 2008
OBJECTIVE
Neighborhood Housing Services of South Buffalo invites planners, urban
designers, multi-disciplinary firms and any other qualified
professionals or teams to submit a proposal to provide professional
services for the South Park Avenue Revitalization Initiative. South Park
Avenue is a main commercial and transportation corridor, which travels
from Buffalo's waterfront through South Buffalo and Lackawanna. The work
program should involve a comprehensive planning assessment and analysis
of the current conditions, including the market conditions,
transportation, pedestrian conditions, housing condition and
affordability. The plan should also assess the data and identify the
areas that are in greatest need: the most blighted, the least safe and
the area of greatest opportunity. The expected outcome of the
comprehensive plan would is to revitalize this once vibrant commercial
corridor and to emulate and connect the dots with successful efforts on
Seneca Street, a sister strip, and Lackawanna's "Victory Gardens" plan,
which targets the intersection of South Park and Ridge, site of Our Lady
of Victory Basilica and Olmsted's South Park and Botanical Gardens.
