Comprehensive Long-Range Plan development
The Town of Southern Pines, North Carolina
Submittal Deadline: April 21, 2008
Southern Pines is a community located in the Sandhills of North
Carolina, bordered by Whispering Pines, Aberdeen, Carthage, Pinehurst
and the Fort Bragg Reservation. The Town is comprised of a healthy mix
of residential, office, and commercial property with a
light-industrial/corporate park in the early stages of development. It
enjoys many golf courses, recreational areas, greenway trails, and a
historic and vibrant downtown area with a beautiful main street that is
separated by an active rail line that is uniquely landscaped. The ETJ is
comprised of many large estates and horse farms. Boundary growth is
extremely limited by adjacent jurisdictions and future concerns are
specific to in-fill and redevelopment issues. Most of the jurisdiction
also lies within the Little River Watershed, classified as WS - 111, and
falls under a unique HQW designation along the McDeed's Creek waterway.
SCOPE
Southern Pines intends to issue a single contract to a professional
consulting firm or qualified individual to provide professional planning
services to the Town for the development of a Comprehensive Long Range
Plan. The Town anticipates that this plan will serve as the basis for
modifications to existing land use and planning regulations, public and
private investment decisions and prioritization for the allocation of
Town resources.
