Request for Qualifications - Consultant Services
New Haven Coliseum Site Redevelopment
The City of New Haven Office of Economic Development, Connecticut
Submittal Deadline: April 22, 2008
The City of New Haven Office of Economic Development has issued a
Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to identify a highly experienced and
motivated development team to redevelop Block F, a 4.46-acre site
located on the eastern portion of 275 South Orange Street in downtown
New Haven, Connecticut. The property is commonly known as the former New
Haven Veterans Memorial Coliseum Site.
This property is the largest remaining development site in downtown New
Haven and is located in immediate proximity to Interstate 95, Interstate
91, and Union Station. The City has a strong interest in a development
that will meet its goals of intensifying mixed use in the central
business district and in the historic Ninth Square neighborhood.
The redevelopment of this parcel is part of the Gateway Downtown
Development Project - a redevelopment project announced on June 3, 2004
by the City and the State of Connecticut, with more than $240 million in
state bond funding - which includes the relocation of Gateway Community
College and Long Wharf Theatre to downtown locations. The Gateway
Downtown Development Project began with the demolition of the former New
Haven Veterans Memorial Coliseum, a massive and no longer functioning
facility. The demolition took place from 2005-2007 and now is home to a
temporary surface parking lot. With this site cleared, the City is ready
to redevelop the former Coliseum site so that it becomes part of the
functioning, mixed-use fabric of the downtown.
The City of New Haven seeks to identify a development team or teams with
the financial capacity and experience to execute the project in a manner
consistent with the project goals. For the complete RFQ and associated
exhibits, please register on the Bureau of Purchasing website and
