Complete City-Wide Urban Design Standards
The City of Sioux City, Iowa
Submittal Deadline: July 1, 2008
The City of Sioux City, in concert with the Siouxland Chamber of
Commerce and local developers, hereinafter referred to as the Urban
Design Standards Committee, is in the process of soliciting proposals of
qualifications from firms knowledgeable and experienced in creating
city-wide urban design standards. The Urban Design Standards Committee
will rate the firms based on the adopted evaluation criteria and
procedures contained herein.
The Urban Design Standards Committee is interested in a firm to develop
a city-wide Urban Design Standards Manual as an amendment to the 2005
Comprehensive Plan and to be implemented through amendments to the
Municipal Code which addresses the following in regards to private
development and supporting public infrastructure:
*	Aesthetics; 
*	High quality standards; 
*	Flexibility, unity, and consistency; 
*	Building form and scale: materials, building types, rooflines,
etc.; 
*	Signage: location, type, illumination, size, etc.; 
*	Lighting: type, location, height, etc.; 
*	Landscaping: parking areas, type, maintenance, etc.; 
*	Storm water best management practices; 
*	Site Design: parking and service areas, building location, etc.;

*	Tables, cross-sections, pictures, architectural renderings,
and/or illustrations to show design elements or methods; 
*	Maintenance and sustainability of urban design elements; 
*	Identification of prominent districts and corridors; and, 
*	Design which responds to unique district and corridor identities
throughout the City. 
A pre-submittal meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday, June 11, 2008
at 10:00 a.m. in room 308 at the City Hall of Sioux City to discuss all
aspects of the RFQ process and respond to questions. Sub-consultants are
encouraged to attend to network with prime consultants. Please e-mail
Paul Barnes to verify the time, date and location of this meeting
(pbarnes at sioux-city.org).
Interested firms are to submit eight sets of their proposals to the City
of Sioux City, Community Development Department, Attention: Paul Barnes,
Planner, P.O. Box 447, 405 Sixth Street, Sioux City, Iowa, 51102, no
later than July 1, 2008. Complete RFQ text can be downloaded from the

Selection will be made by July 15, 2008. Phone inquiries and / or
interviews of firms will be conducted, based on proposals received.
Incomplete submittals, incorrect information, or late submittals shall
be cause for disqualification. Copies received by FAX will not be
considered.
